I killed 127 email distractions last week

Here's how I finally stopped email from ruining my focus time

Hey there,

Most sales leaders I know are drowning in a sea of emails while their most important work sits untouched.

I used to be that person - constantly context-switching between deals, team questions, and internal updates. My inbox was essentially running my life, and my family time was suffering. Then I discovered a simple email hack that changed everything. After implementing it, I reclaimed 2-3 hours of focused work time daily and stopped checking emails after hours.

Today, I will show you how to take back control of your inbox. Here's what we'll cover:

  • A simple 3-step framework to reclaim your focus

  • How to implement it without missing important messages

  • Bonus: Community Systems Spotlight Launch (Submit your system)

Let's dive into how you can change your relationship with email forever.

3 Steps to Email Freedom (Even if You're Handling 100+ Messages Daily)

To break free from email chaos, you need a system that works with your role, not against it. Here's how to set it up:

Step 1: Install Your Focus Shield

First, you'll need to install Boomerang for email (It’s free to start).

While email providers and sales engagement platforms offer some email management features, Boomerang's "Pause Inbox" feature is what sets it apart.

This feature acts as your personal email bouncer, holding back the constant stream of messages that fragment your attention throughout the day.

Step 2: Create Your Batch Schedule

With Boomerang you can set the times you want your email delivered.

Here's my schedule:

  • 8:00 AM: Morning email review and planning

  • 12:00 PM: Midday check during lunch/deep work transition

  • 4:50 PM: End-of-day processing

You'll be amazed at how much more you accomplish when you're not constantly reacting to new messages.

Step 3: Emergency Override Protocol

For those moments when you need to check for an urgent message, Boomerang offers three flexible options:

  • Temporary override: Get messages for a specific duration

  • Quick check: Receive current messages while maintaining your pause schedule

  • End schedule: Unpause your inbox and end schedule

That's it. Here's what you learned today:

  • Email management isn't about being faster—it's about being strategic with your attention

  • Batch processing emails at set times can reclaim 2-3 hours of focused work daily

  • You won't miss urgent messages—important people will reach you through other channels

The key is to start small. Try implementing batch delivery for just one day next week. You'll quickly see that most emails aren't as urgent as they feel, and your team will adapt to your new, more focused schedule.

Community Systems Spotlight

Last week I posted a poll to see if others would be interested in submitting their personal systems to be featured in an upcoming issue of the newsletter.

I got enough interest that we’re going to give it a go.

These would be practical, proven approaches from other sales professionals in our community focusing on:

  • Closing more deals without working evenings

  • Prioritizing activities for maximum impact

  • Managing pipeline more effectively

  • etc., etc.

Each featured system will include full attribution to you, your role, and your background (with the option to link to additional resources like ex: website, newsletter, product/services).

So if you’d like to submit your system for review - I put together a brief 9-question survey:
