My wife hated my travel habits (here's why)

The 2-step system that stopped getting me in trouble with her

Hey there,

Constant travel is part of the game for most sellers, but I struggled with it for years.

Here’s what I mean…

I used to be the guy who'd forget my belt, leave chargers in every hotel room, and once even left my laptop at a Marriott. My wife wasn't thrilled when I also left my wedding ring behind. (more than once)

After years of thinking, “I’ll remember next time,” I finally realized I didn’t need a better memory - I needed a better system.

Today, I'll walk you through the simple system I created to fix my travel amnesia.

The Simple System That Fixed My Travel Amnesia

Here's how to build your own foolproof system in just 2 steps:

Step 1: Build Your Master Travel Checklist

Start by creating a comprehensive checklist in your task management app (I use Todoist, but any similar app works).

Your template should include categories that cover every aspect of your trip:

  • Travel logistics (flights, hotel, etc.)

  • Work essentials (computer, chargers, headphones, etc.)

  • Clothes (outfits, shoes, etc.)

  • Toiletries

  • Departure

Here’s how I set up mine:

Step 2: Make It a Reusable Template

Here's where most people fail - they create a list once and then have to rebuild it every time.

Instead, save your checklist as a template.

In Todoist, hit the three dots in the top right and "save as template." Now every trip starts with the same comprehensive foundation instead of starting from scratch.

This eliminates decision fatigue. When you're stressed about an upcoming client meeting, the last thing you want to think about is whether you remembered deodorant.

Here’s how:

Since implementing this system, I haven't forgotten a single item.

Here's what you learned today:

  • Organize travel prep by categories, not random memory

  • Build reusable templates to eliminate starting from scratch

  • Check off items as you complete them, not as you think about them

Your next action: Pick your task management tool and spend 10 minutes building your master travel template right now. Future you will thank present you when you're not buying emergency phone chargers at airport kiosks for $40.
