Your learning system is broken

3 fixes that give you back 10 hours/week

Hey there,

You're reading more but learning less than ever.

You consume dozens of articles, newsletters, and podcasts every week, but can't remember what you actually learned. Meanwhile, all this "must-read" content keeps pulling you away from your real work and family time.

I lived this mess for years until I found a better way.

Today, we're fixing it. Here's how to:

  • Stop reactive reading that kills your focus

  • Build a system that works on YOUR schedule

  • Turn scattered information into stuff you actually use

  • FYI: I’m hosting a webinar this Thursday, 6/5 @ 12pm EDT (details below)

Let's dive in.

3 Steps To Build A Learning System That Actually Works (Even If You’ve Tried Everything)

You want to keep learning and growing, but you're drowning in content.

The problem isn't you - it's that you don't have a real system for handling all the content coming your way.

Here's how to take back control:

Step 1: Capture Everything In One Place

We've all been there. You spot an interesting YouTube video about negotiation tactics, click play, then get distracted by three more thumbnails. Suddenly, you've blown 55 minutes going down random rabbit holes.

Sound familiar?

Instead of this reactive approach, you need a capture system.

Grab a read-later app like Readwise Reader and just dump everything in there for later. When you stumble across something interesting during work, hit save and keep moving.

No more getting sucked into content when you should be getting stuff done.

Step 2: Schedule Consumption Like Client Meetings

Make learning a real part of your routine instead of just squeezing it in whenever.

Block out specific times for content consumption - maybe 20 minutes during your morning coffee or 15 minutes before bed. The key is consistency and boundaries.

When content lives in a dedicated app instead of your email inbox, you control when you engage with it, not the other way around.

Step 3: Turn Consumption Into Retention

Reading without retention is just expensive entertainment.

Here's where most people mess up - they read tons of stuff but can't remember or use any of it later.

That's where modern read-later apps like Reader come in handy. They let you actually do something with what you're reading:

  • Tag articles so you can find them later

  • Highlight the good stuff as you go

  • Get daily reminders of your best highlights

  • Send everything to your notes app automatically

Now, when you need that "Problem Statement Framework" article from three months ago, you can find it in seconds. No more frantic googling or re-reading entire pieces just to find one insight.

Here’s a quick review of my workflow: (Click image to watch)

Here's what you learned today:

  • Stop reading stuff the moment you find it - save it and read on your own schedule

  • Dump everything in one place instead of having articles scattered everywhere

  • And actually do something with what you read so you can find it later

The whole point isn't to read more content. It's to learn more while getting your time back.

Give Readwise a shot. Next time you find something interesting, just save it instead of diving in right away. You'll be amazed how much time you get back for the stuff that actually matters.
